Urban mobility systems must respond to the fact that 70% of global greenhouse gas emissions arise within cities and 20% of CO2 emissions come from road transport. Implementing innovation is the most important pathway for cities to achieve the Green Deal targets for the transport sector: Reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 55% in 2030, and 90% in 2050 compared to 1990 levels. In this context, the mobility sector needs to address its impact also beyond climate and improve in other key topics, such as liveability, circular economy, safety, use of public space, and access for vulnerable users.
